About Me

Thanks for visiting my blog.  My name is Heidi, aka: The Natural Health Mom.  My mission is to help empower moms with knowledge so that they can confidently embrace a holistic lifestyle which leads to the ability to raise radiantly happy and healthy children.  I am so passionate about essential oils and enjoy helping others create a natural medicine cabinet using essential oils.  I teach an online class each Saturday that enables people to learn how to use the top 10 oils for green cleaning, enhancing immunity, reducing stress, purifying the air, deepening sleep, and improving respiratory and digestive health etc.  Please email me at alignwellbeing@gmail.com  if you are interested in learning more about essential oils. My medical background and knowledge of various conditions, help me to be able to guide people in the proper use and application of essential oils. By nature, I am a deeply caring person and I long to help and support people on their health journey.

I am a registered occupational therapist and homeschooling mom.  I have two boys, ages 13 and 15 years old.  Before becoming a mom, I worked as a pediatric occupational therapist for 10 years doing sensory integration.  Many of the children I worked with had sensory processing disorders like Autism or Asperger’s Syndrome.  When my boys were young, I  joined an “empowering organization” called the Holistic Mom’s Network which fueled my knowledge base and helped to support me when I felt alone and criticized by others in my community who didn’t understand my holistic choices.  I have daily read and meditated on the famous quote from Robert Frost called A Road Less Traveled: “Two roads diverged in the woods and I took the one less traveled by……….and that has made all the difference. ”  I know the narrow road leading towards natural health can feel very lonely at times and one of my goals with this blog is to help inspire confidence in moms so that they do not doubt their choices.  I  look forward to striving to help support you and look forward to sharing this journey with you.  If you have any questions or comments along the way, please email me with questions.

Other random facts about me:

1) I love books and have a very hard time giving them away, so I have a humongous library.  Lately I have just adored children’s books–Joni Eareckson Tada is my favorite children’s author.

2) I enjoy cycling (road bikes and the Elliptigo), being out in nature while hiking and getting grounded at the beach.  Before becoming a mom, I pedaled my bike from coast to coast (from Seattle, Washington to Rehobeth Beach, Delaware) with a Christian college called Taylor University (the cycling group is called Wandering Wheels).  It was a powerful lesson in perseverance.  I continue to apply the lessons learned to my daily life.

3)I love to write and have kept journals for as long as I can remember.  I have been writing a book on some of the adorable and profound things I have heard kids say over the years.  When I am sad, I always watch reruns of the show called “Kids Say the Darnest Things.”

4)Homeschooling my two boys has been a dream come true for me.  This video sums up why I love it so much : ) Homeschooling makes it very easy to create a healthy lifestyle and a balanced life. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h11u3vtcpa

5) I love animals and grew up riding horses everyday (dressage and 3 day eventing).  I am also very interested in all forms of animal assisted therapy.  I did my Master’s thesis on dolphin assisted therapy.  I am also very interested in hippotherapy and using miniature horses for the blind.

6) My youngest child was born with severe allergies and asthma.  We have overcome his challenges through diet (avoiding gluten and dairy) and changing our home environment (awesome air filter and wood floors), and using the essential oil blend called Breathe (so life changing).

7)I am very interested in infant/child massage and have taken classes.  My boys have had a massage almost every day since they were born (it has helped to center them and improve body awareness).  Many have said I have “healing hands.” I enjoy using essential oils in my massage sessions.

8) I developed a condition called otosclerosis in pregnancy (hardening of the bones in my middle ear causing moderate hearing loss).  These two beautiful boys were worth the loss. God has also used it to give me greater compassion for my rehab patients with hearing loss.
